‘Nothing in the classical canon quite prepares you for Hywel Davies… the album [Natural Language] contained an invigorating collage of material, both deliberately arranged and aleatoric.’ – Louise Gray, The Wire

Hywel Davies, a composer, sonic artist and installation artist, reveals his most significant preoccupations as a composer in new album ‘Hywel Davies’ – exploring the possibilities of ‘white-note’ music (non-chromatic diatonic music) and aleatoric music. A parallel creative life as a sonic installation artist and a concert music composer has resulted in captivatingly diverse works, presented gracefully in this release.

Look Inside is the title of his second album, an album featuring arrangements and performances that range from electronic producers Ost&Kjex to the contemporary classical composers Ole Henrik Moe and Julian Skar.

SOILWORK – NEW MODEL ARMY’s Justin Sullivan to guest on new album

Justin Sullivan, lead singer of the English band NEW MODEL ARMY, will be guest vocalist on the track ’The Windswept Mercy’ which will appear on the new SOILWORK double album, ’The Living Infinite’. Formed in 1980 in Bradford, England, New Model Army still have a very loyal fan-base and SOILWORK frontman Björn ’Speed’ Strid counts himself as one of them.

Sullivan shares the serendipitous back-story on how he met up with Sweden’s melodic metal maestros, SOILWORK:
”Some years ago, I met Björn somewhere in the deserts of the southwestern U.S. I expect we both had good reasons for being there – though things like reason get swallowed up in the strangeness of deserts...

GIRL BAND – FRANCE 98 out on Any Other City on February 4th

Girl Band are a four piece noise-rock band from Dublin, Ireland. There are no girls in the band.

They formed in late 2011 and “France 98” is their second release with Any Other City Records. Musically somewhere between Bleach-era Nirvana, mclusky, Jesus Lizard and even that incendiary first Idlewild demo in their teens, long before they started sounding like REM. This a band listening to the same bands as METZ have been listening to, but living a lot closer to home.

The EP is released on a limited run of 300 12″ handstamped, numbered records.

Klak Tik reveal new single, Reborn. Taken from the forthcoming album, The Servants

To follow their (9/10 NME rated) debut album ‘Must We Find A Winner’ Klak Tik (comprised of Søren Bonke, Matthew Mitchinson & Jonathan Beyer), escaped the trappings of East London’s alternative coffee shops and vintage chic for a simple purer existence in the Welsh village of Penrhos. For a month Klak Tik drew inspiration from the cold January sea, set up a make shift recording studio deep under Parys Mountain and shouted high into the chapel’s rafters.

On November 26th, the band will release the first single to be taken from the new album, Reborn.
Principal Songwriter Søren Bonke had this to say about the inspiration for ‘Reborn’.

”I was travelling on the Piccadilly Line towards Ealing during rush hour one morning and I was looking at this man in a suit sitting across from...

Interview with Eluveitie

I briefly spoke to Merlin and Chrigel from Eluveitie shortly before they played the HMV Forum in London as part of their tour with Sabaton, and asked them about their albums and touring..

Festivalphoto: Your new album, Helvetios was released in February. How has it been going down with the fans?

Chrigel: It’s going down great, reactions have been extremely positive.

Festivalphoto: 6 months after Helvetios you released the early years. What made you decide to go back and re-record your first EP (Ven) and release it with a remastered version of Spirit, as the early years?

Chrigel: On one hand both havent been available for quite a while so it made sense to re-release them, and also we’re celebrating our tenth anniversary this year we wanted to do something special for the fans...
