Det sägs att det skall bli 30c idag och det är redan sjukt varmt. Folk säckar ihopa som gasade insekter pga värmen. Några som skiter fullständigt i hettan är Göteborgsbandet LILLASYSTER och dess publik. Martin på sång blev inkörd i en rullstol. Detta kommer bli häftigt trodde alla och tog för givet att det tillhörde showen. Men i själva verket har Martin fått diskbrock så han kunde inte hoppa runder som han gärna hade gjort. Istället satte han sig på ett trumpodium och röjde trots sin skada. Han satt på knä, låg ner och kröp upp på monitorerna och gav järnet.

Hela bandet njöt av publikens respons. Det var nog ingen som bryddes sig om vad klockan var när de spelade. Kunde lika väl vara kl.00 istället för kl.12 som de nu spelade…...

7 år. Sju år är en lång tid. Så änge sedan var det Brittiska Therapy? lirade i vårt långa vackra land som sångaren och gitarristen Andy Cairns sade. Det var molnfritt och det var lätt att ta miste på vart man befann sig. Är vi i Gävle eller på en tropisk plats? Tokvarmt var det iallafall mitt på dagen.

Therapy? börjar lite knackigt och det är dålig tillslutning med folk. Men efter en kvarts speltid har bandet kommit i form och nu har även publiken hittat till spelningen. Efterhand som spelnigen fortgår uppfattar folket bandets kvalitéer och publikhavet växer stadigt. Jublet växer men folket orkar fortfarande inte röra på sig. Ljudet är bra och hela ljudmattan är tydlig. Sången är kanske lite lågt mixad mot trummorna som ljuder mellan gasklockorna...

5th edition of a small festival with big names brought me to South of Norway, in Kvinesdal, up to an amazing location for a rock concert. The festival area is surrounded by green hills and behind the stage there is a lake (or a river, can’t really see where it ends) where people can go for a bath. Water might be warmer than that at the showers. The security at the festival is the strictest I have ever seen. There are two check points on the way to the festival and they checkv roughly everyone who comes in, so you must wait at quite a queue sometimes. Then they do not allow mosh pits nor people to be lifted on others’ shoulders. A really negative point is the fact that I only noticed a trailer with 5 toilets inside the camping area...

Sjukt bra utan att krångla till det.

Efter att Exodus värmt upp publiken precis innan så var pulsen uppe och nävarna knutna i luften. Utropet ekade runt gasklockorna. Rust In Peace, en av 90-talets bästa plattor firar 20-års jubileum och detta firar Dave genom att åter ta in halvsvenske David Ellefson på bas. De har ju haft det lite körigt mellan varandra det senaste decenniet men nu ser de ut att stormtrivas ihopa. De riktigt lyser om dessa två herrar inklusive Chris Broderick på gitarr och Shawn Drover på trummor. Guldgubbarna ser prydliga ut på scen i svarta skjortor förutom Dave som är klädd i vitt. Den klassiska ”Dave-looken” är orörd.

Det är som vanligt ingen direkt utsmyckad scen men vad fasiken gör det när det är musiken som gäller...

Årets upplaga av Kirunafestivalen gick av stapeln första helgen i juli. Staden i sig är ingen främling för mig, mina föräldrar är uppvuxna här och många skollov och högtider har spenderats med släkten i Kiruna. Festivalen har jag dock aldrig lyckats besöka så det är med nyfikenhet jag och vänninan Emma kör in i Sveriges nordligaste (och vackraste?) stad. Jag har nästan lite svårt att hitta i centrum när det förvandlats till en festplats av stora mått. Själva området är större än jag trott, det finns flera scener samt gott om matstånd och ett väl tilltaget festivalområde. Nu jämför jag förvisso inte Kirunafestivalen med någon av Sveriges riktigt stora festivaler, utan snarare med festivaler i andra städer av liknande storlek.

Atreyu
The American metalcore band whose name is inspired by the character in the fantasy movie ’The Nevereneding Story’ opened the last day on the main stage. While the members got on stage they had a Queen’s song on the background. The music is quite intense, with lots of screaming and the guitar solo almost resemble power/speed metal.

Evergrey
This is a band that I have recently discovered and fell in love with. And another personal interest in watching them was to see how the ex Therion bassist, Johan Niemann integrated into the progressive band. He seemed confident with his playing and was a cool surprise to see him doing backing vocals as well. The singer, Tom, joked that they would play fast since they want to run and see Katatonia...

Sabaton
The Swedes whose main theme in the lyrics is historical wars opened the day for me on the main stage. They keep jumping around during their very energetic show and it’s quite a good wake up music. In between songs they talk t the crowd, spicing the dialogues up with jokes about the sound engineer and a blow job. The show ended literary on fire on the rhythm of Primo Victoria.

Dark Funeral
To wake up completely, I went to the Marquee I tent to check out more Swedes, this time on the black metal side. They came on stage with their faces painted, almost on the edge of silliness and with big pentagrams on their clothes. I think most of their songs are dedicated to one form or another of Satan or anything anti Christian. Good blasting from the drummer.

Held every year in Dessel, Belgium, usually the last weekend of June, the festival celebrated 15 years of existence in 2010. Big names such as Aerosmith, Soulfly and Kiss were brought for the celebration, even if along its history the festival was never cheap on big names. The sun seems to have enjoyed the music and considered showing up for the entire weekend, making it almost unbearable in the small tents. Speaking of small tents, the amount of famous names playing here is so high that names like Sepultura and Nile only got a space in the smallest of the 3 tents. Organisation is even better than in 2010 in my opinion, but it’s probably demanded by an increased number of attendees...

Have you ever imagined energetic rock concert at Opera and Ballet house area? Well, that is quite possible. For example, in the capital of Norway. In the heart of Oslo, Operataket started series of various concerts. And just another day after celebration of Midsummer day it was possible to enjoy yourself at famous Skambankt and BigBang concert. Yeah, stage is on the water, possibilities to watch show – on the Operas and Ballet house roof. Spectacular view, nothing less. Possibilities to listen to the concert – whole Oslo downtown. So, can you imagine the atmosphere?

At the concert there were two more bands for warming up. So that were Lionheart Brothers and Smoke Mohawk. They started to play at 6 p.m. After them, straight ahead – Skambankt on the stage at 8 p.m...
